As a former foster care Supervisor for the State of Georgia, a former foster child herself, and a single mother to nine children – four of whom were adopted out of the troubled foster care system, Channelle Lewis gives great insight into the needs of troubled youth and their families. Channelle will inspire your audience with her powerful driven keynote of Empowering, Motivating, and Triumph of the Human Spirit. Channelle's presentation focuses on ways to survive child abuse, completing your education, and living your life to its fullest.
Channelle was raised by her single mother, who during Channelle's childhood became an alcoholic. This would lead to Channelle being abused and neglected. By the time Channelle was 13 years old, she had to deal with her mother's drinking, her father was in prison for two different murders, all of her grandparents had passed away, and she had been molested by a family member and a close family friend. All of this would set the path for Channelle being arrested and placed into the foster care system. A year later, the court would terminate the parental rights of Channelle’s parents and she became a ward of the state.
Despite the obstacles that Channelle's childhood produced, Channelle was determined that she would make something of her life. At the age of 21, Channelle became pregnant with her first child. It was at this time that Channelle decided to go to college. And while attending college, Channelle would give birth to her second biological child.
In May 2001, Channelle earned her Bachelor’s of Art Degree from Norfolk State University. After she graduated, Channelle moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she started working for the State of Georgia as a Social Worker. The father of Channelle's children would end up following her to Atlanta. Soon after his arrival, the two of them ended up getting married.
Channelle would go on to give birth to two more children during their marriage. After suffering years of sexual abuse as a child, Channelle would discover the man she married had a secret. He was a convicted child molester. Channelle immediately ended her marriage. After the marriage ended, Channelle set out to fulfill a lifelong dream – to adopt a child in need of a family. Channelle has adopted three older children from the foster care system.
For most, the obstacles that Channelle has faced would be enough to give up. However, despite Channelle's life challenges, she has gone on to not only survive, but also excel in her life. Channelle now shares her story and lessons learned with audiences of all ages. Audiences are stunned by her endurance, accomplishments and her ability to bounce back from all of the obstacles that she has faced. Channelle's story is one of the most inspirational stories that you will ever hear.
